3 Must-Haves for Spring!

Hi friends,

March is here, and I am so ready for warm weather! I absolutely love getting outside and being active this time of year. Another thing I love, is switching out my closet to prepare for the warmer months. Southerners know how hot it can get during the summer time, so I am going to milk these few spring months for as long as they last!

In the midst of transitioning to warm weather clothing, here are 3 of my must-haves for this Spring season:

1. Statement Flats– I am currently OBSESSED with lace up and studded flats! They started with top fashion designers like Valentino and have worked their way into more affordable options. Thank goodness!

These are perfect with skinny jeans, shorts, dresses, you name it! I’ve linked some of my favorites below.

2. Neon Everything– While in the winter months I am heavily clad in a black and gray scale, Spring gives me a chance to break out of the classics and have a little fun. A pop of neon is a way to brighten your look without resembling a highlighter.

One of my favorite ways to incorporate neon is with a cute clutch or handbag. Its an easy way to sass things up!

3. Bright Lips– If you know me well, you know my obsession with lipstick. I have over 40 lipsticks and am always looking for more! This spring, I see bright lips in the forecast including hot pinks, bold corals, and fuchsias.

I’ve always said a lipstick can change your mood and your look instantly. Check out the fun colors linked below.

My Favorites for the New Year!

Happy New Year, friends!

I’ve been missing in action because I’ve had so much fun celebrating the holidays and my birthday, but I’m back!

With the start of a new year, everyone talks about their resolutions and goals, but today I want to talk about my favorite things coming into 2016. After all the shopping that occurred over the past few months, I was able to see new items that intrigued me, pieces that are on trend and things that I love and will be on repeat!!

Below find the items that I think are going to rock this winter season (links under pics!):

MAKEUP: Two of my favorite gifts over the holidays that any makeup lover can appreciate is the Urban Decay Naked3 Palette and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit! (Thanks, Laura and Heather!)

Naked3 Palette/ ABH Contour Kit

While the Naked3 Palette is much more beginner friendly than the ABH Contour Kit, both items made me SO excited! I have been wearing the eye shadows every day. The Naked3 palette has more rosy shades and each one is so pretty it is difficult to chose which to wear each day. Some are matte shades while others have a nice shimmer so there are plenty of options.

I am also learning more about contouring so hopefully I can utilize the ABH Contour Kit in future posts and possibly a tutorial in the (distant) future! I think it is amazing what people can do with a little (or a lot of) shading and highlighting.

TRENDING: Over the knee boots and socks are definitely trending right now! I haven’t purchased OTK boots just yet, but I recently bought two pairs of OTK, or thigh high, socks from Anthropologie. I am in love! I styled mine with knee high boots so that the sock added a special detail to my outfit.

Both OTK options can be worn so many ways. While the “Pretty Woman” OTK boot is a bit scandalous, you can make this trend sassy by wearing the boots over leggings or pairing the socks with knee boots and a dress that hits just above the socks.

REPEAT: Unfortunately, the style that I am loving most, and want to have on repeat, has not agreed with South Carolina weather very much this fall and winter. I have been obsessed with toboggans (beanies) and knit headbands! With headgear, there is a large variety to choose from and this simple outfit addition can jazz up your style for not a lot of money.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen me rock a leopard toboggan from Faded Glory (Walmart) as well as one from Belk’s brand New Direction. I purchased the Faded Glory one for about $3 and the Belk one for under $20.

My hat (on super sale!)/ Tribal Beanie/ Betsey Johnson Headband

I think the knit headbands are really special and fun because you can wear them so many different ways. Many have metallic threading or beading on them too so they can be worn with a pretty peacoat or a somewhat dressier outfit.

These are just a few things I am loving in 2016! What trends are you excited about or have on repeat right now?! Let me know and comment below! I want to know what you are wearing!

A Holiday Look: Part 1

Its officially the Holly-day season!! See what I did there?!

But seriously, with lots of events and parties to attend along with the gift shopping, wallets can get tight really fast! We all want to look our best without going over our budget.

In thinking about holiday looks for the fashion conscious girl, I wanted to create two looks that were stylish and chic and wouldn’t break the bank!

This two part series starts with a look that I created from items I already had in my closet!

My advice for an easy, festive outfit is as follows:

  1. Pattern: find an article of clothing that has a wintry or holiday pattern as your centerpiece. I went with a subtle houndstooth skirt with a faux leather trim to start.
  2. Color: add a pop of red or green (and don’t worry about the traditional shades- branch out like my burgundy top!)
  3. Bling: fun jewelry and accessories can make or break an outfit! Add a few pieces that really stand out!
  4. Heels: and last but certainly not least, slip on a pair of sassy heels and your confidence will make you the star of the party! Not into heels? Try a sparkly or patent leather flat to jazz up your style.

Most of these items are things that you probably already have in your closet! Take a look around and see what you can create. I bet you will surprise yourself and style the perfect Holly-day outfit!

I would love to see all of your holiday outfits so tag me on Instagram or Twitter with my handle, @palmettocouture!

Beauty Review: Younique Mascara

DSC_0079Before Picture: No Mascara

During: Left (bare) Right (two coats)

After: Two coats of Younique on top lashes

My Review: 3 out of 5 Stars

I heard of Younique and their Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascara a while back but never tried it. A friend of mine was recently selling it, and I decided to give it a go!

In case you are not familiar, this mascara requires users to first coat lashes with its transplanting gel. While still wet, you must use the second tube of product that contains fibers to lengthen and thicken your original lashes. Then you must seal in the fibers with the transplanting gel. Repeat if necessary. (I did two coats.)

For me, personally, I could tell a difference in the thickness of my lashes immediately. In regards to length, I could never achieve the beautiful lashes I saw in the many success stories. While this could partially be user error, I think results are definitely varied depending on the lashes of each individual person.

My lashes are fairly short and there’s really not a lot of them! You can see in the pictures that there is a difference, but I believe I can achieve a similar look with products that I currently use. And being a slightly pricey mascara at $29, I was hoping to be a little more pleased with the outcome.

As for the ease of application, it was a more time consuming than tradition mascara, but the instructions were easy to follow.

The overall wear of the mascara was good but not excellent in my opinion. After several hours of wearing, some of the fibers fell on my cheeks and under/in my eyes.

While there are pros and cons to this mascara, I still give it a 3 out of 5 stars!

I think for girls with a little more lashes, you can probably create a very glamorous look with the fiber mascara. I love the idea of using a mascara as opposed to false lashes too because those can be a pain and the glue can tear out lashes if not removed properly.

It was relatively easy to use, and I will continue to play with the mascara to see if I can work on the length of mine. I don’t know that I would use this as an every day mascara, but with the holidays coming up, I look forward to trying again and adding a little something special to my look with the Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Mascara!
