Its officially the Holly-day season!! See what I did there?!

But seriously, with lots of events and parties to attend along with the gift shopping, wallets can get tight really fast! We all want to look our best without going over our budget.

In thinking about holiday looks for the fashion conscious girl, I wanted to create two looks that were stylish and chic and wouldn’t break the bank!

This two part series starts with a look that I created from items I already had in my closet!

My advice for an easy, festive outfit is as follows:

  1. Pattern: find an article of clothing that has a wintry or holiday pattern as your centerpiece. I went with a subtle houndstooth skirt with a faux leather trim to start.
  2. Color: add a pop of red or green (and don’t worry about the traditional shades- branch out like my burgundy top!)
  3. Bling: fun jewelry and accessories can make or break an outfit! Add a few pieces that really stand out!
  4. Heels: and last but certainly not least, slip on a pair of sassy heels and your confidence will make you the star of the party! Not into heels? Try a sparkly or patent leather flat to jazz up your style.

Most of these items are things that you probably already have in your closet! Take a look around and see what you can create. I bet you will surprise yourself and style the perfect Holly-day outfit!

I would love to see all of your holiday outfits so tag me on Instagram or Twitter with my handle, @palmettocouture!

My Review: 3 out of 5 Stars

I heard of Younique and their Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascara a while back but never tried it. A friend of mine was recently selling it, and I decided to give it a go!

In case you are not familiar, this mascara requires users to first coat lashes with its transplanting gel. While still wet, you must use the second tube of product that contains fibers to lengthen and thicken your original lashes. Then you must seal in the fibers with the transplanting gel. Repeat if necessary. (I did two coats.)

For me, personally, I could tell a difference in the thickness of my lashes immediately. In regards to length, I could never achieve the beautiful lashes I saw in the many success stories. While this could partially be user error, I think results are definitely varied depending on the lashes of each individual person.

My lashes are fairly short and there’s really not a lot of them! You can see in the pictures that there is a difference, but I believe I can achieve a similar look with products that I currently use. And being a slightly pricey mascara at $29, I was hoping to be a little more pleased with the outcome.

As for the ease of application, it was a more time consuming than tradition mascara, but the instructions were easy to follow.

The overall wear of the mascara was good but not excellent in my opinion. After several hours of wearing, some of the fibers fell on my cheeks and under/in my eyes.

While there are pros and cons to this mascara, I still give it a 3 out of 5 stars!

I think for girls with a little more lashes, you can probably create a very glamorous look with the fiber mascara. I love the idea of using a mascara as opposed to false lashes too because those can be a pain and the glue can tear out lashes if not removed properly.

It was relatively easy to use, and I will continue to play with the mascara to see if I can work on the length of mine. I don’t know that I would use this as an every day mascara, but with the holidays coming up, I look forward to trying again and adding a little something special to my look with the Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Mascara!

Happy Thanksgiving Friends!

I hope you are enjoying time with family and friends and eating lots of good food! This is such a great holiday because it not only brings people together but is a time to reflect on all the things for which we are thankful.

I am very thankful for so many blessings in my life and thankful for each of you that take the time to read and comment on my blog! Palmetto Couture has been a blast to create, and I can’t wait to see where I can take it.

Today I am taking it easy with my parents, doing some online shopping (I love some deals!) and taking a great, big nap!

I will also get a jump-start on writing out my Christmas cards and pulling some Christmas decorations out of the attic if I’m feeling energetic! What will you be doing today?

I hope you are able to enjoy your day and remember to be thankful for everything not only today but everyday. And again, thank you so much for supporting Palmetto Couture!

“That my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord, my God, I will give thanks to you forever.” Psalms 30: 12

As the temperature gets cooler, we often find ourselves choosing warmth over style. I am guilty of this myself, but when I find a stylish piece of fall and winter gear that also keeps me warm, I don’t hesitate in making a purchase!

This faux fur and chunky knit wrap is going to be put on repeat the next few months! It is so warm and cozy, and I bet you won’t believe I bought it at Target! It is great quality for the price tag of about $40!

Wraps and ponchos are pieces that are easily incorporated into your closet because you can pair them with basics that you already own. Putting a fun printed wrap over a turtleneck or long sleeve shirt gives a nice layered look that will seem like you put much more effort into planning your outfit than you really did! You can always belt your wrap to accentuate your waist and have a more polished look too!

Here are a few other wraps and ponchos that I love: French Connection / Chip & Pepper / Merona

Sangria Photoshoot

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and that means spending time with family and friends and eating a lot of good food!

Every family has their own traditions regarding the Thanksgiving day menu, but if you are looking for a delicious and festive cocktail to share at your feast, I have just the recipe for you!

You may have seen a similar recipe circling around Pinterest the past few months much like I have. I decided to do a trial run with my best friend, Laura, and her husband, Ryan, to see if it would pass the taste test. And ya’ll, this is dangerously good!

I present to you…Caramel Apple Sangria!

It is a fairly simple drink to make but honestly, it appears and tastes like a lot more went into making it! We added a special touch by rimming the glass with brown sugar and it not only looked pretty, but it added more flavor to the sangria with each sip!

Below is the recipe we used, but if you are wanting a larger quantity I would simply double the ingredients:

Caramel Apple Sangria

750ml bottle of Pinot Grigio (or white wine of your choosing)
1 cup of Caramel Flavored Vodka
2 cups of Apple Cider
1-2 Apples
Brown Sugar (for rim decoration)

Pour all liquids into a large pitcher and stir. Cut apples into small pieces and add to the pitcher. To decorate the rim of your wine glasses: dip the top of the wine glass into a little apple cider and then place lip of the glass into a shallow plate of brown sugar to coat the rim.

Then pour your sangria and enjoy!

Try it and let me know what you think! Happy Thanksgiving!
